The Design Museum’s Dieter Rams exhibition, Less and More, was designed by the London-based studio and our special edition of Monograph documents some of that work, creating a unique record of this important show.

In creating the exhibition graphics, Bibliothèque took the view that Rams’ product design sensibility is essentially a graphic one – that many of his objects resemble graphic design made, as it were, flesh.

The show features large wall graphics created from illustrations of the controls and interfaces of some of Rams’ most famous pieces.

Less and More: The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams is at the Design Museum until 7 March 2010.

The artists showing all make work that demonstrates an awareness of the culture, history, traditions, conventions and genres of their chosen medium combined with an ability to re-examine these in the light of contemporary art practice and theory.

Mummery + Schnelle is developing an exhibition programme with a critical and curatorial consistency that will present the work of exhibiting artists in its proper context and with a clear understanding of its concerns. Following Rotate’s experimental line (based on Duchamp’s optical investigation) and Lamole’s surrealistic violent spirit, we developed this simple and hypnotic spot as a continuation of our experimental work. The sound track is a fusion that is inspired in the 70’s horror cinema and the Japanese imaginary. The stereoscopic version to watch with 3D glasses is coming soon.

2001년 바르셀로나에서 처음 시작된 세계적인 올~어라운드 디지털 아트와 아티스트들의 축제인 ‘0fff 2009’ 가 올 여름 지구를 뜨겁게 달굴 거 같다. 여기한번 가보는게 소원인데… 짬이 안나서 못갈 거 같다. 그놈의 짬은 언제날런지~ㅋㅋ 여하튼 참여아티스트는 물론, 컨텐츠들도 다양하고 놀라운 것들이 가득 하다! 현재를 살아가고 있는 당신 이라면 이것이 결코 자신과는 거리가 먼 이야깃거리는 아닐 것 같다.

W+K Tokyo Lab 에서 디렉터와 애니메이터를 담당하고 있는 Genki Ito의 놀라운 작업물. W+K Tokyo Lab 하니 2005년경 서울에서 열렸던 ‘one dot zero’ 가 생각 난다. 흥분의 도가니탕 정식을 먹어가면서 짜증날정도로 잘한다 라는 생각으로 휩싸였던 세미나로 기억된다.

많은 작품들중 가장 기억에 남았던 ‘Digital Breath’ 를 다시 보니 그때의 도가니탕 정식이 생각나는구나…

전부터 해본다 해본다 생각만 하고 있던 찰나, 벌써 비슷하게나마 했군… 대단한건 아니고, 시간조절에 의한 프레임으로 텐션을 주는 방법인데, 음….원하는 그림 그대로는 아니지만 그 느낌은 좀 오는거 같다. 육중한 비보이의 뱃살이 매우 인상적이다.

7x7 is a collaborative project showcasing the work of 7 illustrators produced for the Creative Alliance After Hours programme.

We were invited to talk about the importance and methods of self promotion. We then developed, designed and produced a promotional piece to showcase their work.

Our concept to highlight the groups editorial illustration focus was to get them to illustrate the lyrics of a song. These illustrations were packaged as a collection of 7inch singles. At the last minute we stepped in to provide the 7th illustration and chose Karen Revisited by Sonic Youth.

1월 ‘그래픽 아츠’ 에도 소개가 된 바 있지만, 캐나다를 중심으로 프랑스, 독일등 유럽등지에서 활발히 활동하고 있는 젊은 아티스트 ‘Julien vallee’의 결과물들은 그동안 심심찮게 쓰이던 ‘종이공작’ 이라는 표현기법이 주를 이룬다. 그는 ‘종이공작’(그동안 광범위한 표현적 특성으로 오히려 두리뭉실 하게 치부되버린) 이란 기법에 탁월한 색채 감각과 디자인적 유니크 함으로 새롭고 싱싱한 생명을 연장시켜 주었다고 생각된다. 물론 새로운 표현과 기발한 기법을 연구하는것도 중요하지만, 단순히 말해 종이와 연필 만으로도 승화시킬 수 있는 표현들이 아직은 너무나 많다는 것이다. 생각의 틀을 넓히고 조금은 유순해질 필요가 있다. 디자이너에게 지레짐작성 ‘모 아니면 도’ 라는 사고방식은 매우 치명적인 자세임엔 틀림없다.
